Baked Corn dog "puff"/"bun"

I'm not really sure what this is called cos I literally just put together everything I saw on the net. The recipe orignated from Easy Food Recipes For Beginners (obviously cos I only can make beginner stuffs) and I am doing it now in the middle of the night cos I have alot of hot dogs left from steamboat earlier.
Since I don't cook often, I didn't really like the idea of deep frying and wasting a ton of oil later (Plus I have clothes in the laundry). So I googled for "can you replace deep frying with baking" and basically what it says is, your food will be cooked, but will not be crispy like chicken wings.
(PS, I need an airfryer!)
Here's the recipe:
All purpose flour (I am not sure how much is needed, hence I used 2 tbsps since it looked like the same amount)
1tsp salt (I used slightly less)
1 tsp baking powder
1x egg
hotdogs (I happen to have chopped up hot dogs but you can use the full dogs as demonstrated in the video) Steps
Put in the flour, salt, baking powder, egg and mix till it looks like a batter (refer to video)
Roll your hotdogs in them and coat them evenly
I baked them in a preheated oven for 10mins at 180C
Taste: 2/5 (not so good)
Despite the reduced salt, the "puff"/"bun" tasted slightly salty and was rather dry. Not at all like the corn dogs I had at Cold Storage! There are a couple more recipes online, a few involving cornmeal, perhaps I will try those with deep frying and update if it tastes better!
