Frozen food are such life savers, especially those that you can just pop into the oven or steam for 10-15mins and you get yummy no-brainer food. One day, I went by the supermarket and thought that frozen wings seem like a good idea! Since I had no idea how to choose those wings, I went for the most economical one (read: cheapest!) which comes in a pack of 2kg.

So now I have TONS of chicken wings that I absolutely had no idea what to do with.

From Google, I first tried cripsy oven wings which may I say, didn't worked out as I hoped and the cleaning made me swear off baking exposed oily food. Which, leads me to this recipe that I cleverly (*hehe) improvised.

This recipe is from Cooking With May Lynn, it's a Youtube video so you can watch it if you need. Otherwise, here's the ingredients and steps:

Ingredients

  • 10 chicken wings (I used only 4 wings since we can't possibly eat 10 wings on our own.)

  • 1 tbsp honey (I used about 3/4 tsb cos the last time I attempted this, it was wayyy too sweet.)

  • 1 tbsp light soy sauce (I only used half a cap full.)

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1/4 tsp white pepper powder (I added quite abit of white pepper sparingly.)

  • onion (I only used half an onion cos it seems like so much already!)

  • ginger (I used like about half a ginger. My MIL recommends squeezing it into juice as she says it's tastier but no matter how I pressed it, it's still in solid form so I made do with slices. =( )

Steps

  1. Marinate the wings with light soy sauce, pepper, chopped onions and ginger for at least 2 hours (I typically marinate it overnight, as recommended by my MIL for more flavour. Plus, you don't have to wait when you want to eat it the next day!)

  2. Dilute the honey with water

  3. Lay the wings in a baking tray lined with aluminum foil and brush the honey water on the wings front and back

  4. Wrap it up and bake for 193C for 15mins (Here's where I improvised. Since I didn't wanna make a mess in my oven again, I wrapped the wings up in foil before baking. PS, your wings will not look half as appetising as the one in the video!)

Taste: 3/5

It tasted not bad really, with a hint of sweetness from the honey. The pepper, ginger and onion combi really resulted in some absolutely yummy smelling wings. I would watch my pepper sprinkler abit more the next time round.
